Re: Hammers Heroes Monday 19th Cliffs Pavillion
Basically he told Paul Allen (a wet behind the ears 16 year old on his first away trip) that he got a bit emotional on away trips, missing his girlfriend etc so Stuart Pearson (Cross's usual roommate) would get into bed with him until he fell asleep.....

Allen refused, so Cross laid it on saying well if I don't sleep then John Lyall will know tomorrow I haven't had a good night and he'll blame you Paul if I don't play well.

So he eventually Paul agreed to hold his hand, and Cross described how they were there in this hotel room holding each others hands between the beds!

Very dry humour Cross, good story.

I liked the story Johnny Hartson told about when he was at Arsenal and Paul Merson had just bought a horse for 20 grand (in the mid 90s remember), and instead of going with the team out to Germany for a midweek Champions League game, he wanted to go and see his investment run its first race.

So he asked Hartson to give him a whack during training so he could pretend to be injured and he'd have to miss the trip.

Unfortunately for Merson, Hartson in his own words "rather liked the physical side of the game", walloped Merson so badly it genuinely put him out for FOUR MONTHS! And to add insult to it, Hartson got fined 2 weeks wages by George Graham.

Unfortunately you can't do the story justice on here because you needed to be there to hear the story from Crossy himself. Very dry sense of humour but the story had everyone in stitches. Basically he was told to look after Paul (16 at the time) and was his room mate. Crossy wound him right up on the first trip away and it began with him telling "Ollie" that he was afraid of the dark. But like I say you had to be there.

We have been doing these shows for a number of years now and they been very successful because the fans have been so supportive throughout. In my opinion another example of our fans loyalty. We have had all the big names on stage now and we wouldn't want to become so repetitive that people start to become fed up with us. Go out on a high as they say and delighted with how many tickets were purchased last night for next year's show.

Was it anything to do with the fact he looked like Stan Laurel?

Great night out.

Gale was as always great at hosting.

Thought Hartson was really good, particularly liked his Paul Merson story.

McAvennie hilarious as always.

David Cross was a bit before my time so have never really seen him, he was entertaining and the Paul Allen story had me in stitches

Re: Hammers Heroes Monday 19th Cliffs Pavillion
Quite remarkable Pop Robson has hardly changed in fifty years, though has had an accident and was on crutches. Liked a story from Hartson from his Celtic days under O'Neil when he threw his toys out of the pram, or rather when he was subbed again and went straight into the dressing room and in rage threw the teams sandwiches at the wall covering the other players clothes in bits of food.
All the players were great with Galey on form again.
